Industry aviation leader brings world class technology design to full braking and landing gear system and nacelle of the AS2

RENO, Nev., Dec. 18, 2019 — Aerion Supersonic, the leader in supersonic technology, today announced it has selected Safran, an international high-technology group, operating in the aircraft propulsion and equipment, space and defense markets as a major partner for the AS2® supersonic business jet. By joining forces, these companies will bring over a century of aerospace experience to support the preliminary design of the first-ever modern supersonic business jet.

Two Safran companies have already joined the project to support the AS2®. Safran Landing Systems will design the complete braking and landing gear system, from main and nose landing gears, to wheels and brakes, including extension / retraction, monitoring and steering systems, at their engineering centers in Canada and France. Safran Nacelles will design the AS2® nacelles, including the engines’ inlets, fan cowl doors and thrust reverser in France.

Aerion Supersonic, the leader in supersonic technology, announced today that GE Aviation has been selected as the Electrical Power Systems provider for its AS2® supersonic business jet.

GE Aviation will design and develop the electrical power system for the AS2®. The system includes electrical power generation, distribution, conversion and energy storage.

In 2018, Aerion announced that GE’s Affinity™, the first civil supersonic engine in 55 years, will power the AS2®. The Affinity engine is optimized with GE technology to provide exceptional and balanced performance across supersonic and subsonic flights.

The AS2® electrical power system design and initial integration planning work will be conducted at GE’s Electrical Power Integration Centre (EPIC) in Cheltenham, UK, with final integration and procurement at GE’s Electric Power Integrated Systems Center (EPISCenter), the electrical power integration headquarters, located in Dayton, Ohio.

He joins Aerion from Spirit Aerosystems in Wichita, where he served as Deputy General Counsel of the $7.2 billion aerostructures manufacturer. Previously, Coleman served in a variety of legal positions at BAE Systems, a global defense, aerospace and security company; Curtiss-Wright Corporation; and the U.S. Department of Justice, where he was a trial attorney in the Aviation & Admiralty Section.

Coleman received his Juris Doctor degree from the Dickinson School of Law at Penn State University and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota. His passion for aviation extends to his personal interests as a licensed commercial pilot and Certified Flight Instructor.

Tom Vice

Tom Vice is Aerion’s Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. He joined Aerion as President and Chief Operating Officer in March 2018 and was named Chief Executive Officer in August 2018. Mr. Vice led the discussions that culminated in the recently announced partnership with Boeing to develop the Aerion AS2® and pioneer new markets for supersonic travel.

Prior to Aerion, Mr. Vice retired from Northrop Grumman after nearly 31 years with the company, most recently as President of its Aerospace Systems sector overseeing an $11 billion global advanced technology business with 23,000 employees.

Bryan Barrett

Bryan Barrett is Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Keystone Group L.P., an affiliate of Aerion Partners L.P., the lead investor in Aerion.
